Workshop on Multidimensional Analysis of Qualitative Data:
An Overview of Dual Scaling and Its Applications
On May 11, 2000, a one-day (9:00-17:00) pre-conference workshop, using the computer program
DUAL3 for Windows, will be held. The workshop offers an overview of
this comprehensive framework for nonlinear multivariate analysis
of categorical data in a simple and concise way, without any
assumptions about the participants' background knowledge of
dual scaling. Many numerical examples will be used to illustrate
its applications to practical problems. This workshop is for
everyone, interested in analyzing a variety of data.
[Fee (1)]: Participants will
receive a copy of the DUAL3 for Windows and a book "Dual
Scaling in a Nutshell by S. Nishisato and Ira Nishisato (MicroStats,
1994), plus handouts, all at a special conference discount
price, included in the workshop registration fee of $100 Canadian.
This price is available only during the conference (see the
regular price below).
[Fee (2)]: Participants will receive only handouts. Then, the fee is
Regular: Cdn $40 (US $30)
Student: Cdn $20 (US $13)
The following book is strongly recommended: Nishisato, S. Elements
of Dual Scaling. Hillsdale: Lawrence Erlbaum, 1994.
The DUAL3 for Windows can be characterized
as follows:
- optimal analysis of diverse data
types using most up-to-date methodologies
* analyzes all types
of contingency/frequency, multiple-choice, sorting,
paired comparison, rank order (including solving Coombs'
problem of multidimensional unfolding), and successive
categories data.
- easy-to-use Windows-based
interface
* 16- or
32-bit operating environment, permitting access to full
system memory and providing faster-than-ever analysis
results
- single-window input screen,
allowing simultaneous viewing of all analysis
parameters and on-screen changes until the moment
analysis commences
* radically
enhanced display options, for fully customized results
each time
- comprehensive on-line help
facility, including lexicon of key terms and
explanations of data types, analysis methodology,
output types and important references for key
topics
* full graphical
display of analysis results
