About Us

The Latin American Research, Education and Development (LARED) of OISE/UT was launched in September 2002 to bring together students, alumni, professors, researchers and other members of the OISE/UT community with an interest in Latin America, in Canada/Latin American relations, or in Latin Americans in the diaspora (with a focus on Canada).

We noticed that we have a critical mass of people at OISE/UT with these interests (probably more than in any other UT faculty) but we do not have any system in place to share information, which creates dispersion and duplication of activities, and often inhibits potential collaborative efforts and partnerships.

The agenda for the network is open, but we anticipate that, among other things, we could organize speakers' series, invite colleagues from Latin America, share information about our research projects and other projects, collaborate among ourselves, etc. For the time being, we will be an informal group. Later on, we could decide together the degree of formality that we want to give to it. In any case, our idea is that in the future we link this initiative to similar ones that may evolve in other parts of the UT community. The first project of the network is to develop this website.
