This section of the handbook describes a variety of student assessment techniques. Wong A. T. (1995). Portfolio development as a tool for language and career development among immigrant professionals. [On-line] Available [November 08, 1999]

This paper provides an introduction to the portfolio-assisted assessment approach within the context of a collaborative project conducted by the author and the students and instructors of a job re-entry program sponsored by the Immigrant Women of Saskatchewan, a not-for-profit organization. Examples are given to demonstrate how the integration of portfolio development activities with language development activities can benefit the cognitive and affective development of immigrant professionals. The sharing of activity sheets developed for the project provides an opportunity for the conference participants to experience selected components of the prior learning assessment process.
