CHILD STUDY

Course: 2200H

Department of Human Development and Applied Psychology
OISE/University of Toronto

Monday, FALL Term 2000, 1:30 - 4:30, Room 127, ICS

 Welcome to the website for course HDP2200, the Child Study course in the Department of Human Development and Applied Psychology. This course is designed for students to learn the issues, knowledge, and skills central to developmentally oriented practice. Such practice is in part based on the systematic study of children through observing, recording, interpreting and reporting their behaviour and development in diverse practice and research settings. A range of methods from direct observation to standardized testing will be surveyed. The role of the practitioner as critical inquirer will be emphasized.

At the end of the course students will:

-have demonstrated knowledge of the major concepts and methods in child study;
-have employed methods of child study to gather information that can aid understanding and advocacy on behalf of children and families; and
-have been presented with an alternative to the false division between research and practice.

You can get information about the instructor (which takes you back to Rick's home page) or the course (readings, outline, how you will be evaluated, course reference list), or you can go directly to the conference page where you can respond to course readings, and any comments written by others.
