nothing in mind

nothing is perfect

just don't do it

nothing in mind

good for nothing

buy nothing

eat nothing

say nothing

ain't heard nothin' yet

theories of nothing

much ado about nothing

nothing from nothing

Empty your heads! Don't think of anything.

We've only got one shot at this! Peter Venkman (aka Bill Murray)

Emptying the Mind

Restless mind, monkey mind, over-active mind, racing mind. The mind may be the source of all our busyness. It seems the mind can always think of something for us to do.

Many spiritual or religious practices have evolved to help quiet the mind. Here is a sampling of my favourite techniques to help still the mind.

The Breath - Following the breath is a simple practice, common to many forms of meditation and relaxation. It is simple to do and can be highly effective in clearing the mind.

Mindfulness - Staying in the moment, staying aware of exactly what we are doing and feeling in this moment, is another key to settling a racing mind. The Buddhist Meditation Teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, provides many helpful thoughts on how to stay aware of the present moment.

Meditation - There are many schools, systems and methods for practicing meditation. Here are two methods that have been helpful to me.

Yoga - Yoga is an ancient discipline that joins body, mind and spirit. Anyone can practice it, it requires no special equipment. All you need is a small amount of space. Practicing yoga mindfully, is helpful to body and soul
